We had the honor of producing a neon for Takashi Murakami's exhibition "Unfamiliar People: Swelling of Monsterized Human Ego" at the Asian Art Museum in San Francisco. The show ran from September 2023 to February 2024, and the museum billed it as the artist's first solo exhibition in San Francisco.
Our piece is one of Murakami's signature smiling flowers, made in pink and white neon and standing about 8 feet tall. It was a big build for our team!
The museum credited the neon production to Lena Imamura and Brandon Deleeuw of GLO Studio on its thank-you wall, which made us very happy.
This wasn't our first time working with Murakami's flowers. In 2022 we produced pink and blue flower neons for the artist as well.
Working with artists is one of our favorite things to do. If you're an artist, gallery or museum with a light-based idea, we'd love to help you make it. Tell us about your project.
